History
Sermonspice.com was founded on July 9th, 2004. This new enterprise began as a way to expand my Christian video production company of over 20 years.
I started in video as a college kid in Fresno, California. I volunteered to be a part of the Peoples Church video production team in 1978. Next, as a freelance producer and director, my work soon spread to producing and equipping various ministries, including Campus Crusade for Christ. I met the ministry's demands with the technology and production that they needed. Frustration built up after creating wonderful videos that would only be shown at one conference or service and then put on the shelf...never to be seen again. Simultaneously, smaller ministries needing quality media, did not have the thousands of dollars required to produce them.
Surely other Christian filmmakers all over the country felt the same way that I did. Consequently, my hunt began for an avenue for films to be shared with thousands, cost effectively. The Internet made this possible. Sermonspice.com was designed and built in a bedroom, by my son Adam, over many months of tireless work. Since then, we have expanded out of that small bedroom and have now grown to be a top provider of downloadable Christian media. And our company is still growing rapidly. I am excited to see what valuable media Sermonspice.com will distribute in the coming years.

About
SermonNews was started in 2005 by Brian Mavis and David Tscherne. The two had met and worked together previously at Outreach, Inc, where Brian was Manager of SermonCentral and David was the Director of New Business.
As the Senior Editor of SermonNews, Brian wrote as well as edited most of the illustrations on the site for the first couple years. But in 2007,
Brian joined the staff at LifeBridge Christian Church. As his ministry responsibilities kept growing, his time for writing and editing kept shrinking. So in late 2007, he entrusted David with sole charge of SermonNews. Now it's David's turn to write and edit. But Brian will continue to add a few stories from time to time.
David is a graduate of Golden Gate Theological Seminary, has a Master of Divinity degree, and is an ordained Southern Baptist minister. He has been a pastor and church planter, and ministered at Novato Christian Fellowship in Novato, CA, and Chapel of the Hills and Daybreak
Community Church, both in Carlsbad, CA.
He later was employed at Outreach, Inc, in Vista, CA, and served in a number of roles there, including New Church Development, where he developed much of the initial curriculum for the popular Four Laws of Effective Outreach course.
Over the years, David also taught both New Testament and Systematic Theology classes at Southern California Bible College and San Diego Baptist Bible College.
David is currently retired from pastoral ministry, and operates this and other websites geared toward pastors. He is a member of Cornerstone Church, a dynamic, multi-racial, church-planting, mega-church* in Toledo, OH. (*Mega by Toledo standards, at least.)
